How long does it take to join the British Army Infantry?
I am planning on going to a recruiting station on Tuesday and I if I am happy and willing to sign up, how long does the recruitment process take to fully join the British Army Infantry? I have no medical problems and no criminal records. I wear glasses but my eyesight isn't terrible.
Answer:
this is everything from starting to promotion to leaving but some of it will make more sence later on in your career ok good luck - Initial Soldier Training is conducted at a number of sites around the country depending on your age and which bit of the Army you are joining. All Standard Entry (over 17) infantry training is conducted by the School of Infantry at the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) Catterick. It conducts combined Phase 1 and Phase 2 training for all infanteers on the 6 month Combat Infantryman's Course (CIC).The rest of the Army is trained by the various units that make up the Initial Training Group (ITG). Three Army Training Regiments (ATRs) deliver Standard Entry (over 17) training, 2 at Pirbright and 1 at Bassingbourn. In addition, Junior Soldiers (between 16 and 17) are trained at either the Army Foundation College in Harrogate or the Army Technical Foundation College in Winchester.ITC Catterick, in North Yorkshire, trains all Army Infantrymen. AFC Harrogate If you are a school leaver aged between 16 years and 17 years and 5 months, the AFC(H) offers a unique opportunity to learn as you earn.ATC Pirbright,The largest Phase 1 training establishment within Initial Training Group (ITG) reponsible for training 17 year olds and over. ATR Bassingbourn A large and historic training establishment located near Cambridge responsible for Standard Entry (over 17).ATFC Winchester, One of the most modern camps in the British Army, geared up to train recruits aged between 16 and 17. The Infantry Training Centre Catterick (ITC Catterick) trains all Infantrymen joining the British Army Recruits joining any of the Infantry Regiments, including The Footguards, The Parachute Regiment and The Brigade of Gurkhas undertake all their initial training at ITC Catterick. They complete the relevant Combat Infantryman's Course, which represents their combined Phase 1 and 2 training. Junior entry Infantry soldiers (aged 16-17) receive Phase 1 training at the Army Foundation College Harrogate. They then come to ITC Catterick to complete their Phase 2 training. The Army is committed to ensuring that soldiers have the training and skills required for promotion. A Command, Leadership and Management (CLM) programme is mandatory for those selected for promotion to the rank of Non-Commissioned Officer. The aim of the soldiers' education programme is to improve the performance of soldiers both in barracks and on operations and the CLM courses prepare soldiers for the tasks that they will undertake during their military careers. This is supported by a 'Skills for Life' package. The CLM programmes develop leadership and management skills as soldier's progress through the ranks, including Basic Skills support and the development of professional military knowledge. The skills and qualifications that soldiers gain are accredited and transferable to civilian life once they leave the Army. CLM training is developmental and will be provided at 4 levels (PNCO, JNCO, SNCO and WO). Each training course is provided in three parts as follows:•Part One is provided by Arms and Services Directors (A&SD), either in units or by the Army Recruiting and Training Divisions. Depending on the individual A&SD Part One courses may be embedded within existing courses, run separately, or be a combination of the two.•Part Two is Work Based Learning (not for PNCO) provided by the A&SD with assistance from Educational Training Service (ETS) Learning Development Officers (LDOs).•Part Three consolidation training (not for PNCO) is provided by the Army Education Centres (AECs) Successful completion of Part One is a key element of qualifying the individual for immediate promotion, while completion of Parts Two and Three will qualify the individual for subsequent further promotion. The education elements of the CLM programme are delivered in Army Education Centres. They are designed to prepare a soldier for promotion to the next rank by giving them the skills and knowledge that they will require in order to operate effectively when in command. Each course builds on the previous one, whilst introducing new material as appropriate. The programme of courses cover
•Leadership•Management•Communication•Pro - knowledge•Personal development. All levels of the CLM programme count as credits for civilian qualifications, whereby soldiers can gain the following:•Professional and vocational qualifications in management•Degree level modules and credits•Membership of professional institutions. A soldier's career will begin at the rank of Private and may rise to Warrant Officer Class 1.personal development is a lifelong process and does not stop when serving personnel are posted abroad. The gaining of qualifications is an on-going process that spans your whole career. Many of the Army qualifications that can be gained are matched to civilian qualifications (or accredited), improving your prospects when leaving the army.
